When Legibility is Not the Goal
Welcome to the weird side of the internet. "Shitposting" is the act of posting content that is aggressively low-quality, surreal, or chaotic for comedic effect. It is not about conveying information; it is about conveying a vibe. And nothing says "chaos" like text that is falling apart.
The Upside Down Aesthetic
Writing upside down (uʍop ǝpısdn) is the classic troll move. It disorients the reader. It is perfect for "cursed" opinions or pretending to be from an alternate dimension.
Example: "Just woke up and the ceiling looks great today ˙dlnɥ ǝsɐǝld"
The contrast between the normal text and the upside-down cry for help is where the humor lies. It tells a story in two lines.
Zalgo and Glitch Text
If upside down text is silly, Zalgo text is eldritch. It uses combining diacritics to stack markings on top of letters until they bleed into the lines above and below.
Use this for:
- Deep Fried Memes: When the audio is distorted, the text should be too.
- Mocking Anger: "I am c̶a̶l̶m̶." The glitch effect visually contradicts the word, adding layers of irony.
- Screaming: A normal "AAAAHH" is fine. A glitched "A̴A̴A̴A̴H̴H̴" feels like it is tearing the screen apart.
The Ethics of Chaos
A quick note on being annoying vs. being funny. Glitch text can physically block other people's comments if the characters extend too far vertically. It can be seen as spamming. Use it in your own posts or captions, but maybe don't flood a community forum with it unless you want to get banned. The best shitpost is one that everyone can enjoy, even if they have to rotate their phone to read it.
